The 2008 Spring Conference, April 25-26, features author Phyllis Tickle!

As the spring approaches, plans and registration ramp up for the Women's Spring Conference. Women from all three Episcopal dioceses in Tennessee will gather with their bishops at DuBose Conference Center in Monteagle, Tenn., for the conference April 25-26.

Registration will be on Friday, April 25, from 1 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The opening eucharist service with all three bishops will begin at Otey Parish at 3:30, followed by a reception at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6:15. The longstanding tradition of conversations with the bishops is planned to begin at 7:30 p.m., followed by music by Sherry Paige. The day will close with compline from keynote speaker Phyllis Tickle's "Divine Hours" prayer manual.

This year's featured speaker is noted Episcopal author Phyllis Tickle (www.phyllistickle.com, or see the conference web site at nsider.net/ECW/). On Saturday, at 9 a.m., she will give her keynote speech, "Glimpses Ahead: Following Christ in the 21st Century." After a short break, she will lead a second session for conference participants.

Saturday lunch will be served at noon. Tickle will sign copies of her books from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Please print and complete the registration form and mail it as instructed with a check for the total fees. The deadline to register is April 11.

Each fall the diocese’s Episcopal Church Women come together in Knoxville for their annual meeting to worship, visit and conduct business together. The bishop of East Tennessee, the Rt. Rev. Charles vonRosenberg, celebrates Holy Eucharist, and he installs new board members and affirms continuing members for the next year. The meeting includes a luncheon, and past programs have inspired and entertained with speakers or music.

Registration for the next fall meeting is usually taken at least one month ahead of the date, and a registration form will be made available both here and in the East Tennessee Episcopalian for printing and mailing.

The Tucker Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by the ECW of the Diocese of East Tennessee according to the ECW 2004 yearbook, "in thanksgiving for Mollie Tucker's life and witness and for her many years of service to the Episcopal Church Women in Tennessee." The financial award is intended to help recipients reach educational goals at accredited colleges or technical schools. Since 1988, more than 20 women in the diocese have been awarded a Mollie Hazen Tucker Scholarship for $1,000. It is a one-time grant for one year only.

An update on past Tucker Scholarship winners was included as part of the ECW's 2004 Fall Meeting. Three scholars attended the program, along with the Rev. Louisa Tucker Parsons, daughter of the woman in whose name the scholarship is awarded. The event was covered in the East Tennessee Episcopalian.
