The Bishop called the convention to order at 2:30 p.m.

Report of the Credentials Committee

The Bishop called on the Rev. Allan Cole, Chair of the Credentials Committee, who reported the following registration: 68 clergy, 132 lay delegates, for a total of 200 delegates. There were 21 alternates and 53 visitors for a total of 274 in attendance.

Elections

The Bishop called on James Shearouse, Chair of the Elections Committee, who explained the voting procedure.

Election Ballot #1

Election ballot #1 was taken for members of the Standing Committee. Nominees in the clergy order were the Rev. Jocelyn Bell, Christ Church, Chattanooga and the Rev. Matthew Dutton-Gillette, St. Elizabeth's, Knoxville. Nominees in the lay order were Barbara Griego, St. Clare's, LaFollette and Harry Chase, St. James, Knoxville.

Election of Bishop and Council Members - Lay Order

Nominees in the lay order for Bishop and Council were James Morris, southeast and Sharon Dooley Monroe, middle east. Mr. Shearouse made a motion from the Committee that since Mr. Morris and Ms. Dooley were the only nominees, they be elected by acclamation.

Election of Bishop and Council Members - Clergy Order

Nominees in the clergy order for Bishop and Council were the Rev. John Bonner, Christ Church, South Pittsburg, southeast and the Rev. Craig Kallio, St. Stephen's, Oak Ridge, middle east. Mr. Shearouse called for nominations from the floor for Bishop and Council members in the clergy order. The Bishop recognized the Rev. A.D. Lewis who nominated the Rev. Harry Bahlow, St. Thomas, Elizabethton and St. Columba's, Bristol, upper east area, and the Rev. Alex Barron, Ascension, Knoxville, middle east area. Mr. Shearouse made a motion from the Committee that since the Rev. John Bonner and the Rev. Harold Bahlow were the only nominees from their areas, they should be elected by acclamation.

Election Ballot #2

Election Ballot #2 was taken for clergy members of the Bishop and Council from the middle east area.

Election Ballot #3

Election Ballot #3 was taken for Trustee, University of the South. Nominees were Shawn Graham, St. Andrew's, Maryville; Prestine Huckabay, St. Paul's, Chattanooga; David Kalwinsky, St. John's, Johnson City and Lida Barrett, Ascension, Knoxville.

Election of Members of the Ecclesiastical Trial Court

Nominees in the clergy order for Ecclesiastical Trial Court were the Rev. David Bateman, St. Thaddaeus, Chattanooga; the Rev. Peter Keese, St. John's Cathedral, Knoxville and the Rev. Martha Sterne, St. Andrew's, Maryville. Nominees in the lay order were John Mendez, St. James, Knoxville and William Pratt, St. Clare's, LaFollette. Mr. Shearouse made a motion from the Committee that since they were the only nominees, they be elected by acclamation.

Members of Ecclesiastical Trial Court elected

Adoption of 2001 Budget

The Bishop called on Ann Lamb, Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee of Bishop and Council. Ms. Lamb moved the adoption of the 2001 proposed budget.
